Blogger, Undoubtedly is one of the most popular blogging platform. With amazing features like freindly Navigation, template editing and most importantly it's free. But One of the disappointing aspects of Blogger is that it is not properly optimized for SEO. For instance Meta descriptions and keywords are not supported by by default. Title tags are also not optimized and much more. This means that you will miss valuable opportunities to attract visitors to your blog.

In this article I will mention two amazing tips which will improve Blogger Search engine optimization. We will talk about Adjusting title tags for better search engine optimization followed up by Adding MetaTags For Better Search engine optimization.

Improving Blogger Search Engine Optimization By Adjusting Title Tags

The default order of Blogger title tags is as follows:
      Wrong Format

However it's not a good search engine optimization practice. Because the title of the blog appears before the title of the blogger post, Ideally the title of the blogger post should appear before the title of the blogger itself. However this could be changed by tweaking your template's html a little bit.

Follow the step by step guide below to achieve higher rankings in search engine results.

1. Login to your blog at and navigate to Layout > Edit HTML

2. Backup your template by downloading it to your computer. This will ensure that you can upload your template before these changes in case of problems.

3. Replace the following line of code (about 5-10 lines from the top):

with (highlight code, Ctrl + C to copy)

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &ampquot;item&ampquot;'>

<title><data:blog.pageName/> |

4. Click on Save Template and then View Blog. Navigate to an individual post. You will see that your page title is now first followed by your blog title. A pipe symbol separates the two.

Now you begin to see the titles in the correct format

Improving Blogger Search Engine Optimization By Adding Meta Tags

Some SEO experts argue that Metatags are not important, It's some what true because google search engine does not pay attention to the metatags. However Google is not the only search engine in the world. There are various other popular search engines like Yahoo, bing and ask capable of bringing you tons of traffic. They pay lots of attention to your metatags.

1. Login to Blogger if not already logged in

2. Navigate to Layout > Edit HTML

3. Back up your template as a precaution by downloading full template.

4. Check the Expand Widget Templates box

5. Find these lines which will be near the top of your template:

<b:include data='blog' name='all-head-content'/>

7. Enter your blog description between the single quote marks under description. Maximum 150 characters

8. Enter the keywords of your blog between the single quote marks under keywords. Ensure you separate each keyword or keyword phrase by a comma. Make sure your keywords do not exceed 200 characters

By way of example here are the meta tags I use for the home page of Incomefigure:

<b:if cond='data:blog.url == data:blog.homepageUrl'>
<meta content='Learn what Internet marketors do not teach you about making money online' name='description'/>
<meta content='blog,blogger,,,blogspot,blogging,tutorials,tips,blogger help,customize blogger,search engine optimizations, make money online, making moeny online, how to make money online'

9. Click on the Save Template button

10. To see your description in action you can either navigate to your blog's home page and click on view source in your browser. In Internet Explorer you will find this option in the view menu. A text document will appear which you can scroll through. You will see your description near the top of the document. Alternatively you can check your description in a free Meta Tag Analyzer tool such as Submit Express or SEO Centro
